Planning for the coronation of King Charles III. on May 6th are running at full speed. Will Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan also appear?

London – The Coronation of King Charles III (74) will be an event of superlatives. No wonder, since the last coronation of a British monarch was 70 years ago. On June 2, 1953, Queen Elizabeth II (96, † 2022) was crowned Queen in Westminster Abbey, even then a major event that was televised. The Coronation of King Charles III. is scheduled for May 6th – the celebrations are expected to last three days.

Where to go with Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan at the coronation of King Charles?

A question that occupies Royal fans worldwide is: will Prince Harry (38) and Duchess Meghan (41) after the release of their Netflix documentary and the appearance of Prince Harry’s scandalous biography “Reserve” (“Spare”) to the coronation of Harry’s father Charles appear or are the fronts between the family members too hardened? This question is apparently also giving Buckingham Palace a headache.

After the coronation ceremony, King Charles III. appear with his king wife Camilla (75) on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to be celebrated by his people. According to Mail on Sunday it is “unlikely” that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will wave from the balcony along with Charles and Camilla. “Everyone agrees that the mere presence of Harry and Meghan would only detract from the coronation,” a source told bild.de. However, there are said to be no plans to completely exclude Harry and Meghan from the coronation.

Coronation of King Charles III: service, procession and balcony performance

The coronation service is to take place on May 6th – the 4th birthday of Harry and Meghan’s son Archie – in the morning at Westminster Abbey, as the royal family has now officially announced. King Charles and Queen Camilla travel from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey in the so-called “King’s Procession”. “After the service, Their Majesties return to Buckingham Palace in a major ceremonial procession known as the ‘Coronation Procession’. Other members of the royal family will join their majesties in this procession.”

Coronation of British monarchs

The coronation of the British monarchs traditionally takes place in Westminster Abbey in London. In the solemn ceremony, the Archbishop of Canterbury inaugurates the Queen or King. Parts of the service are the taking of the oath by the monarch, the presentation of the Bible and the crown jewels, the anointing and finally the coronation with the St. Edward’s crown.

The grand finale is the performance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. “At Buckingham Palace, the King and Queen, accompanied by members of the Royal Family, will appear on the balcony to conclude the day’s ceremonial events,” the official statement said. In addition to Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, there should also be a balcony ban for Prince Andrew (62), who has fallen out of favor.

The other highlights of the coronation weekend: concert, lunch and charity events

The Sunday after the coronation of King Charles III. is all about the big coronation concert at Windsor Castle. “Produced, staged and broadcast live by the BBC and BBC Studios, the coronation concert brings together global music icons and contemporary stars to celebrate the historic occasion,” the palace announced. Coronation Big Lunches are also planned for Sunday across the UK, with the aim of bringing the celebrations “to your neighbourhood” when eating together.

The final event on May 8th is The Big Help Out campaign, which aims to encourage people to volunteer. The coronation is set to be Charles’ big day, but the royal family fears Prince Harry’s revelations could overshadow the coronation. Camilla is said to have convened a crisis summitto reconcile Harry with his family before the ceremony. Now the secret meeting just has to happen. Sources used: dailymail.co.uk, bild.de, royal.uk
