In March, 101,185 euros, in cash, were stolen from the safe of the Mimizan casino in the Landes. An employee of the establishment was arrested, reports France Bleu Gascogne on Tuesday.

In Mimizan, in the Landes, a young man in his twenties was arrested and placed in police custody on April 26 for aggravated theft, according to information from France Blue Gascony. This employee of the city’s casino is suspected of having stolen more than 100,000 euros from the establishment, at the end of March, through the roof of the casino.

On the night of March 21 to 22, 101,185 euros in cash were stolen from the casino safe. In the early morning, the employees and managers discover a hole in the ceiling of the secure room, where the safe was. The thief removed the tiles, crossed the attic, broke the placo and landed in the room. On the CCTV images, he appears hooded and gloved, takes the key to the safe which was hidden in a box, grabs the money and leaves on foot: all in two minutes, watch in hand.

The employee is quickly suspected

Because of the procedure, the judicial police of Bayonne then suspect a casino employee. He left fingerprints on the roof cleats, which quickly allowed the police to eliminate two suspects. A third is then spotted: a few days after the theft, he plays in another casino with a lot of money on him and has also bought a used car by paying 7,000 euros in cash.

The Mont-de-Marsan prosecutor, Olivier Janson, describes a young man with no criminal record, with an unblemished career so far, a classic family history and no money problem. In police custody, he eventually confessed. At his home, where he lives with his mother and stepfather, investigators found 85,000 euros in cash, including 10,000 euros that were stuck in the toilet flush tank.

His mother and stepfather have also confessed to the facts and are being prosecuted for concealment. All three will therefore be tried on the same day, June 27, by the Mont-de-Marsan court.
