Lightning would have caused forest fires in municipalities of NJ

The June New Jersey wildfires in Burlington County were started by natural causes.

And it is that according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, storms generated on June 3 and 16 were the ones that fueled the accidents that consumed dozens of acres in the instances of Acorn Hill and Flatiron.

The experts explained on Twitter that this cause of fire represents 1% of the incidents registered annually in the Garden State.

It’s all because an electrical storm, which causes lightning, can impact the ground or a tree and stay inside it for three days until it makes its way to its surroundings, according to experts from the NJ Forest Fire Service.

It is a phenomenon known as “holdover fire” which is attributed to the Acorn Hill forest fire in Woodland Township and the Flatiron fire in Medford Township.
