DONNA, Tx,- Roy Anthony Yáñez, 39, is behind bars after he was arrested for robbing his mother on June 5.
It all started when Donna police officers responded to the 300 block of South 1st Street regarding an unauthorized use of a vehicle and an alleged assault, a case that was later reclassified as aggravated robbery.
Upon arriving at the scene, authorities made contact with the victim, identified as Lilia Álvarez, who showed signs of having been involved in an altercation, since she had blood on her face and clothes, as well as damage to her lip. With the official investigation, it was revealed that the victim had traits of aggression because Yáñez would have squeezed her and pulled her car when she tried to take it away.
According to the victim, his son Roy Anthony Yáñez arrived at the residence with a “diabolical” face and a violent attitude demanding the vehicle, a Chevrolet Equinox truck. Álvarez testified that at the time of the altercation she feared for her safety, since Yáñez forcibly took the keys to the truck from her and demanded that she enter the residence, and she refused, since on previous occasions she had already been victim of similar situations.
Álvarez entered the vehicle, from the passenger side, with an extra key that he had and was trying to flee; however, he didn’t make it. Until the attacker, Yáñez entered with the main car key and began to assault her and squeeze her hair and her hands, while she yelled at him “How did you fall, mother?” To prevent those who saw what was happening from suspecting the attack.
The victim was no longer able to respond to this situation because, according to her, she began to feel pain, as well as dizziness.
The woman received medical attention after the officer on the scene insisted because the victim did not want to accept her, she was also taken to the Knapp Medical Center hospital for any type of treatment that was necessary, where she provided an additional statement and requested a restraining order, since he said he feared for his safety.
