Today, the Federal Minister of Defense Christine Lambrecht inspected the Naval Arsenal (MArs) Warnowwerft at the Rostock-Warnemünde site in the presence of the Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Manuela Schwesig and the hosting President of the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Federal Armed Forces (BAAINBw) Gabriele Korb inaugurated. The official ceremony is another milestone in the development of additional repair capacities for the German Navy.

The establishment of this efficient maintenance base in the Baltic Sea area will contribute to relieving the MArs at its main location in Wilhelmshaven. In the future, repairs to ships and boats of the German Navy will also be carried out here. In the medium term, the material operational readiness of the seagoing units of the Navy and thus the ability to defend the country and the alliance can be significantly increased.

Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht: “I am very pleased that we are inaugurating the Warnow shipyard for the naval arsenal together today. Because this place is a shining example of our hard work to maintain Germany’s security. This step is particularly important in the current security situation , to fill the turning point with life together. All of you here are making a very important contribution to the operational readiness of our Navy and thus to our Bundeswehr as a whole.”

Gabriele Korb, President of the BAAINBw, which is superior to the MArs, was pleased at the event: “This takeover is proof of the quick, coordinated and decisive action of the Bundeswehr and beyond. We are strengthening the operational readiness of the Navy because repairing the ships with our own forces is better can be planned, is significantly faster and is proven to be more economical.”

The MArs belongs to the business area of ​​the BAAINBw and has the task of ensuring the operational readiness of the German Navy. In addition to ships and boats, the area of ​​responsibility also includes the land installations and land-based units of the Navy, including naval schools, radio transmission stations and ammunition depots.

The core tasks are the planning and implementation of material maintenance measures above the level of troop maintenance and the repair of the command and weapon deployment systems by the arsenal operations. The agency carries out all repair and maintenance work that cannot be carried out by the Navy with on-board resources.
