The president reacted to the concerts of saucepans that have accompanied each trip of ministers for a week. According to him, disagreements must be expressed “in a purely democratic and respectful framework”.

After a trip to Loir-et-Cher where demonstrators were again waiting for the president with saucepans to protest against the pension reform, Emmanuel Macron judged that it was not a “tremendous sign of democratic life”.

“I never thought that covering the voice of the other with sound with utensils was a wonderful sign of democratic life,” the president said.

He then added: “Disagreements and anger must be expressed in a purely democratic and respectful framework.”

Support for his ministers

Like the president’s travels, the visits of ministers have been very disrupted for a week.

Last big highlights to date: the incidents surrounding the trips of the Minister of National Education to Lyon and the Minister of Culture at the Molières ceremony.

Emmanuel Macron first reacted to the exfiltration Monday evening of the Minister of National Education Pap Ndiaye from the Gare de Lyon while a reception committee with saucepans awaited him for his return from a disturbed trip to Lyons.

“The Minister of National Education was confronted with a situation which is not civic”, declared the President of the Republic to BFMTV.

He also gave his support to Rima Abdul Malak. “When you can explain things and restore the truth, it looks different,” reacted Emmanuel Macron about the night of Molières during which the Minister of Culture was questioned on the pension reform.

Two artists had challenged the minister to denounce the “good ultraliberal logic” of Emmanuel Macron and the government with the pension reform.

Rima Abdul Malak then stood up to defend both aid during the Covid-19 for artists and the intermittence of the show. She also recalled that “her door was open” to discuss pension reform.

Emmanuel Macron commented: “When you are a minister, when you are challenged and you have the right to reply, it is democratic and civic.”
