President of Tigres de la UANL throws a dart against the Leagues Cup: "We must improve refereeing"

The Leagues Cup is already in its final stage and the Mexican teams lost the opportunity to win it after the elimination of Rayados de Monterrey, a fact that has raised doubts about the sporting growth of Major League Soccer (MLS) and especially given the possible drop in the level of the clubs belonging to Liga MX.

Given this fact, the president of the UANL Tigres, Mauricio Culebro, made the decision to speak about the binational championship that was held in the United States to urge its organizers to improve many aspects that, in his opinion, failed during this competition. 2023; the most important of all these was arbitration and economic prizes.

“It is difficult for the player to be away from home for so long, they do resent it, having finished their participation on May 28, then the Champion of Championsand take a trip that are not at home, their families, is an issue that is not a minor thing to improve, “said Culebro.

“The issue of the prizes can be discussed, improved, there is a remuneration for the players, so also a little… He didn’t talk particularly about refereeing, but both MLS and we are making a lot of efforts and I see an area for improvement in refereeing in general, without talking about a particular case, and that we have a better tournament in the next edition”. he added he.

Despite all these criticisms, the president of the UANL Tigers admitted that there are positive points within the Leagues Cup, the main one being that he made all the Liga MX teams leave their comfort zone when playing out of home.

“The international contact, leaving a certain comfort zone, going to unknown pitches, not having the advantage of round-trip matches, having that international contact, play against teams of other characteristics. There will be things that we will put on the table to improve ”, he highlighted.

Finally, Culebro assured that the distance that Liga MX had over Major League Soccer has been reduced a lot, although he maintained that the Leagues Cup 2023 should not be taken as a reference to deal with this issue.

“It has been cut, but you have to see the context of the tournament, the Mexican teams have just started the league, in the case of Tigres and several teams from the Liga MX, which is just starting and most press on closing. MLS is in the middle and there are several aspects. Distances have been shortened, of course they have, they have a very dynamic, strong team, they have a peculiar style and one match, that style of play hurts us. In both leagues there are very quality players ”, he concluded.
