Liverpool FC has won the race for Cody Gakpo. Late on Monday evening, PSV Eindhoven confirmed the immediate transfer of the 23-year-old. The Dutch do not provide any information about the fee, but according to managing director Marcel Brands it is “a record transfer for PSV”.
So far, Hirving Lozano has been Eindhoven’s most expensive sale. The Mexican winger moved to Naples in 2019 for 45 million euros. For Gakpo, who has contributed 20 goals (13 goals, 17 assists) in 24 games this season, the transfer fee is reported to be up to 56 million euros, including bonus payments.
Liverpool wants to make a final hook behind the deal in the coming days. Gakpo is on his way to England to complete final formalities. Manchester United had also shown concrete interest in the Dutch World Cup driver – the Klopp club was awarded the contract.
