Actually, RTL wanted to ban the magazine “Geo Era”. Now the TV station is backing down. Other magazines still have to give way.

Germany – RTL is now backing down, like RUHR24 reported. Michael Schaper, the former editor-in-chief of “Geo Knowledge” or “Geo Era”, had previously expressed his lack of understanding in public. Thomas Rabe, CEO of the RTL Group, recently announced that the brand universe of “Geo” was shrinking significantly outside of the core brand and that some titles such as “Geo Knowledge”, “Geo Season”, “Geo Compact” or “Geo Era” were being scrapped should be.

RTL Germany would like to significantly reduce the “Geo” magazine series

But this decision was short-lived. Because RTL Germany has decided not to set at least “Geo Epoch”. Just a few days after the announcement, the decision was no longer as clear as initially portrayed (all News about celebrities and TV at RUHR24).

Opposite of Süddeutsche Zeitung was confirmed in mid-February that the management of RTL Germany, which also wants to change some things on the TV station of the same name, will check again whether and how the title “Geo epoch” could continue. Now the test is complete and the setting of at least “Geo epoch” is off the table.

“Geo epoch” can remain: RTL Germany will integrate the magazine into stern+

Stephan Schmitter, Chief Content Officer RTL Germany, praised the stories of “Geo Era” as “high-quality, timeless” content that is an “ideal complement to the planned, daily updated orientation of stern+”. In addition, the target group, which he described as loyal and solvent, would offer great potential. Stable sales figures for previous editions in 2023 would underline this. In the future, “Geo Era” is to be integrated into the new digital offer stern+ “as a supporting pillar” alongside “Stern”, “Geo”, “Capital” and “Stern Crime”.

In the coming weeks, the editor-in-chief is to “further sharpen the economic framework for the magazine in consultation with the management,” said Schmitter. This should end an ultimately unnecessary period of uncertainty for colleagues at the magazine.
