Samsung may continue to utilize the Galaxy S22’s flash storage technology in the cheaper version of the Galaxy S23. According to information revealed by the leaker ice universe on Saturday (28), the manufacturer will adopt UFS 3.1 in the 128 GB modelwhile the other models in the series and their respective storage options will use UFS 4.0.

According to the informant, Samsung has not produced its new generation of flash memory in 128 GB modules, therefore, UFS 4.0 is manufactured only in modules from 256 GB. The Galaxy S23 Plus, Galaxy S23 Ultra and the 256GB version of the Galaxy S23 will be equipped with the latest standard as suggested by the leaker.

UFS 4.0 promises to be up to twice as fast as UFS 3.1. Samsung claims its read and write speeds are up to 4,200 MB/s and 2,800 MB/s respectively. In addition, the new technology is up to 46% more efficient in energy consumption, allowing cell phones to have a small advance in their battery life.

It should be noted that, for now, there is no certainty that Samsung will launch a 128 GB Galaxy S23. Previous rumors indicated that the model with the lowest storage in the line would be phased out, making the 256 GB version the cheapest option, however, recent leaks indicate that the top of the line will still have a 128 GB version.

“Currently, only Kioxia is known to have produced the 128GB UFS 4.0, but through the 128GB chip of the Xiaomi 13,” the leaker said on his Twitter. Samsung, which makes its own memory chips through its semiconductor division, naturally opted to use native technology to borrow from its Japanese rival.

The Galaxy S23 should be announced next Wednesday (1st) at the Unpacked event. Its highlights may include a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED screen, triple camera up to 50 MP and an exclusive version of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
