Algeria is preparing to host the 7th edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2022) which will take place from January 13 to February 4 of the current year. On the eve of the inauguration of this major African sporting event, the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, proceeded to the official inauguration of the new Baraki stadium (Algiers), named in the name of the late South African leader, Nelson Mandela.

Indeed, the President of the Republic officially inaugurated this Thursday, January 12, 2023, the new stadium in the Algiers capital, namely the Nelson-Mandela stadium in Baraki, on the eve of the kick-off of the 7ᵉ edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2022) that our country will host.

Moreover, several personalities welcomed the Head of State to the new Baraki stadium, like the grandson of the late President and South African leader, Nelson Mandela. But also, the president of the International Football Federation (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, as well as the president of the African Football Confederation (CAF), Patrice Motsepe.

In addition, Army General Saïd Chanegriha, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Abderrezak Sebgag, the wali of the wilaya of Algiers, Mohamed Rabhi, but also the president of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), Djahid Zefizef, were also present at the inauguration to welcome President Tebboune and take part in the ceremony.

Towards the construction of new stadiums in Ouargla and Béchar

On the sidelines of the inauguration of the Nelson-Mandela stadium in Baraki, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced the upcoming construction of new stadiums in Algeria. “Our young people love football, therefore, we must take care of this infrastructure”, did he declare.

To this end, the President of the Republic announced “the upcoming construction of new stadiums in Ouargla and Béchar”, in response to journalists during a press briefing held at the new Baraki stadium.
