The oldest construction scaffolding in the city is removed

A building located at 409 Edgecombe Avenue in Harlem woke up with a new image this Saturday, after the construction scaffolding, considered the oldest in the city, was removed.

The shed remained on the sidewalk for more than 20 years, before it was finally dismantled.

A city law requires homeowners to install a shed when constructing a building more than 40 feet tall.

But these must be removed once construction, demolition or remodeling work is completed.

However, more than 4,000 such sheds were reported on city sidewalks in March this year.

Mayor Adams was pleased to return sidewalk space to residents.

He highlighted that about 500 scaffoldings have already been removed from the city streets.

As of March 2023, these had decreased by 21% under the Adams administration.
