The renovation of the Muntliger Steg is celebrated

The Muntliger Steg, which leads over the Rankweiler Trift canal, was completely renovated last year. The popular cycle and footpath connection between Rankweil and Zwischenwasser was widened from 1.5 to 2.5 meters. The supporting structure and the railings were rebuilt in timber construction. The existing appearance was only slightly changed, as the Muntliger Steg is an important part of the listed Triftanlage. The “rake” located there and reconstructed true to the original used to collect the wood that was seamed from the Laternsertal and allocate it to the owners. The renovation work on the Muntliger Steg was therefore carried out in close cooperation with the Federal Monuments Office.

The planning work was carried out by M+G engineers, the master builder work by Nagele Hoch- und Tiefbau GmbH and the timber construction work by Marte Holzbau GmbH. The market town of Rankweil was responsible for the coordination and local construction supervision with Lukas Ess from the infrastructure department. The costs amounted to around 320,000 euros – 70 percent of which was borne by the state and the Federal Monuments Office, 30 percent by the market town of Rankweil.

Exciting opening program
On Saturday, April 29, at 10 a.m., the Muntliger Steg will be officially opened. Municipal archivist Norbert Schnetzer provides insights into the history of the logging facility, which was used to transport wood on the Frutz as early as the 16th century and was in operation until the end of the 1950s. The festival audience can get an idea of ​​how this not harmless craft took place during a shoveling session: at 11 a.m. around 300 logs will be seamed from the industrial park downstream towards the Muntliger Steg. The opening program will be musically framed by the Rankweil Music School – the Funkenzunft and the Rankweil Alpine Club will take care of the physical well-being.

The event only takes place in good weather. The replacement date is Saturday, May 13th.
