The traffic classic between Galaxy and LAFC will be played before a record attendance

The Los Angeles Galaxy and LAFC will meet on July 4 at the Rose Bowl. The Galaxy continue their long tradition of playing games on American Independence Day, this time hosting their rivals in Pasadena.

The Galaxy have had an unimpressive season, with just two wins in their last 20 games. Their previous meeting ended with a 2-0 victory against an LAFC team made up largely of substitute players.

After losing their star striker and captain Javier “Chicharito” Hernández to injury, things have only gotten worse for the Galaxy as the playoffs are now a long shot and they are penultimate in the Western Conference.

LAFC is currently in second position just three points behind St. Louis City SC. Those three points can be crucial in the race for the title. While a win won’t exactly save the season for Galaxy fans, it may give them some momentary bragging rights.

The LA Galaxy announced Monday morning that tickets for the “El Tráfico” game have sold out. The game is expected to surpass the all-time MLS attendance record, set last year when the Galaxy faced Charlotte FC at Bank of America Stadium in front of 74,479 fans.

The game will kick off at 7:30 pm and there will be a party for fans who arrive early with 4th of July themed events including live music and food. Fans are also invited to stay after the game, as there will be a fireworks display for the 80,000 spectators.
