On TikTok a video went viral in which strap-on shoes for faster walking be presented. The video has been almost since its release earlier this year 25 million times clicked and shows several people who are the so-called Moonwalker wear in different environments.
With the shoes to buckle you can move around 250 percent go faster than usual, says the developer Xunjie Zhang. Zhang co-owns the company with race car engineers, roboticists and shoe designers Shift Robotics was founded and the Moonwalker was launched on Kickstarter at the end of October. A sum of almost 330.000 US-Dollar collected. Around 2,000 orders were received.
Traveling at 10 km/h
According to Zhang, the moonwalkers are “the fastest shoes in the world” and are comparable to the moving walkways at airports, which take guests from A to B faster. According to him, the shoes can reach a speed of around 10 km/h to reach. “The faster you walk, the faster the shoes go with you,” he says to Business Insider.
The footwear was tested by several people between the ages of 15 and 60. He reports that they were able to walk with it “quite well practiced” in a 10 to 15 minute walk attempt.
Only available in the US
Moonwalkers are currently only available in the USA and only in one size – from shoe size 41.5 to 46. However, buyers* have to dig deep into their pockets for the moonwalkers: They almost cost 1.400 US-Dollar (equivalent to around 1,290 euros).
The shoes might look familiar to some. They’re similar to the strap-on roller skates that were around back in the ’70s and ’80s.
