Tornado warnings issued for Maryland and Virginia counties after severe thunderstorms

A tornado warning was in effect for Charles County, Maryland, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) until approximately 4:30 p.m.

Another tornado warning was issued for Fairfax, Alexandria and Arlington counties in Virginia until 4:45 p.m., the NWS added.

Authorities urge people to move to safe locations due to winds of at least 58 miles per hour.

According to Telemundo 44 meteorologist Joseph Martínez, this is due to a series of electrical storms that have impacted the area. The system is expected to move northward so the advisory could be extended.

Separately, the NWS also announced that Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia are under a flash flood advisory. To view all weather alerts, click here.
