It is about OX2 getting permission to build the Galene offshore park on 21 wind turbines outside Varberg and Vattenfall getting permission to build Kattegatt Syd consisting of 80 wind turbines outside Falkenberg.

– We gave the green light for a total of about a hundred wind turbines in two parks at sea, which will contribute fossil-free electricity in a region that has a great need for this, says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M).

According to the government, it will take between seven and ten years to complete the parks. Together, they provide an electricity supplement equivalent to a normal-sized nuclear power plant. Initiatives also exist to shorten permitting processes to speed up the construction of wind power.

– Together with nuclear power, they make a big contribution. It is needed when Sweden is to double electricity production until the year 2045, says Kristersson.

“Important to meet the climate goals”

Both the county administration and the armed forces have said yes to the parks, but the matter has been appealed to the court by both the companies behind it and environmental organisations.

Energy and Food Minister Ebba Busch says that today’s announcement is welcome news.

– In order to get out of the energy crisis in the long term, there are no quick ways forward, we need to do the right thing and we need to rebuild a robust electricity system again. It is necessary if we are to cope with the green transition and meet the climate goals while securing the transition of the industry.

No SD influence in the decision

When asked if the Sweden Democrats, who want to stop large-scale wind power, have had any influence on the decision, the prime minister says:

– This is a pure government visit, so they don’t have that. But we are in dialogue with all parties that want to expand Swedish energy production.
