Two young Hispanic men convicted of trying to smuggle rifles from the United States to Mexico

Two Hispanic Arizona residents were convicted of gun smuggling after they were caught attempting to smuggle AK-47-type rifles into Mexico strapped to their bodies.reported the Department of Justice (DOJ).

identified as Manuel de Jesús Guzmán and Joshua Francisco Méndez, both 19 years old, admitted their guilt in the events that took place on June 7, 2022.

Guzmán was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison and Méndez to 12 months and one day in jail. The two young men will have to serve three years of supervised release after completing their sentence.

In a statement, the DOJ said that Hispanics tried to leave for Mexico through the port of DeConcini in Nogales, Arizona.

The defendants were sent to secondary inspection, where Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents The suspects were found to be carrying two Romarms WASR-10 rifles, a Century Arms VSKA rifle, and a Century Arms BFT rifle.which are prohibited for export without a valid license.
