Wagner begins the withdrawal of his forces from Rostov-on-Don

Moscow.- The Wagner Group, which led an armed rebellion in Russia this Saturday, has begun to withdraw its forces from the city of Rostov-on-Don, after reaching an agreement with the Russian authorities, reported Russian agencies.

Wagner’s militiamen They already abandoned the territory of the Russian army headquarters located in that city, which they had taken today “without a shot”, according to the statements of the head of the group, Yevgueni Prigozhin.

According to the Kommersant newspaper, the locals flocked to see off the Wagnerites.

“Thank you for coming here today. At last I began to believe in this country,” one of the Rostov-on-Don residents told Wagner’s militiamen, according to the newspaper.

The locals shout “Wagner”, clap their hands and take photos with the military equipment leaving the city, the outlet adds.

The withdrawal of the fighters of the Rostov-on-Don mercenary group comes less than two hours after Prigozhin announced that Wagner will return to his bases to avoid bloodshed in Russia.

Prigozhin made this statement when Wagner’s forces were some 200 kilometers from Moscow and after reaching an agreement with the Russian authorities thanks to the mediation of the Belarusian leader, Alexandr Lukashenko.

The terms of the agreement are currently unknown.
