Two years from collapse of an elevated section of Line 12 of the Collective Transportation System (STC) Meterthe prosecution General of Justice of Mexico City (FGJCDMX) announced its position and the progress that has been made in the case.

It was May 2, 2021 when the section between Olivos and Tezonco stations collapsed, causing the death of 26 people and the injuries of 98 more. Because of this, the Prosecutor’s Office assured that at this time, it has privileged the reparation for the damage to the victims, through the signing of reparation agreements.

The agency commanded by Ernestina Godoy Ramos assured that they have achieved the signing of 117 reparation agreements between direct and indirect victims with construction companies and 12 more are about to materialize.

“The reparation agreements, established in the National Code of Criminal Procedures, are a mechanism incorporated into our justice system that seeks to prioritizing the interests of the victims and find solutions that imply the effective and timely repair of the damages caused without the need to unleash a long judicial process”, indicated the Prosecutor’s Office.

Said agreements are entered into between the victims and the defendants with the approval of the Public Ministry during the initial part of the investigation and later, in the complementary investigation, by the Control Judge. If the terms are fully met, the effect is the extinction of the criminal action.

Regarding the charges, linked to process six former public servants, co-responsible for structural safety, a director responsible for the work and two individuals, giving a total of 10 people. Their names and positions are as follows:

Enrique Horcasitasformer director of the Metro Project.

– Héctor Rosas Troncoso, former Deputy Director of Civil Works for the Metro Project.

– Juan Antonio Giral y Mazón, former Director of Civil Works Design.

– Moisés Guerrero Ponce, former director of Civil Works Construction.

– Enrique Baker Díaz, former Deputy Director of Engineering and Civil Works Design Project.

– Guillermo Leonardo Alcazar Pancardo, civil engineer Director Responsible for Induced Works of Line 12.

– Ricardo Pérez Ruiz, co-responsible for Structural Safety of Line 12.

– Juan Carlos Ramos Alvarado, resident of the collapsed section.

– Fernando Amezcua Ordaz, supervisor of the civil works of the elevated section of Line 12.

– Fernando Ramiro Lalana, Deputy Director of Engineering and Metro Project.

Two years after the tragedy, the Prosecutor’s Office reiterated its solidarity for families of the people who were injured or died after what happened on Line 12.

“Since the events occurred, the Prosecutor’s Office has focused on finding out the truth and the possible responsibilities attributable to them,” said the Justice department.

The Prosecutor’s Office stressed that in compliance with the provisions of the National Code of Criminal Procedures, the people related to these events must be presumed innocent until their judge declares otherwise after the judicial process.
