Woman shot in the head and her baby manage to wait for police outside their Connecticut home

A woman was shot in the head in Woodbridge, Connecticut, on Thursday night and police said she was found outside the home with a baby when they arrived at the scene. A man has been arrested.

Officers responded to Raymond Road at 7:52 p.m. to investigate a shooting and found a woman with a gunshot wound to the head and an infant outside the residence. The baby was not injured, police said.

The suspect was in the house and was not coming out, according to authorities. State police, New Haven police and Seymour police then also responded and the suspect, identified as Raymond Sosa, 49, of Woodbridge, was taken into custody.

The woman was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital and her injuries are not life-threatening, police said.

Authorities said this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. The police continue to investigate.

Sosa was charged with second degree assault, risk of injury to a minor, criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, unlawful possession of a high capacity magazine and negligent storage of a firearm.

He was held overnight on $100,000 bond and is due in court Friday morning.
