In this context, President Alberto Fernandez surprised on social networks with a request to the leaders. Minutes before the start of the official presentation of the joint candidacy, the Argentine president turned to social networks to ask add Bolivia.

“Our Argentine National Team brought the World Cup to our continent and it would be a great joy if, 100 years later, the World Cup returns to where it all began: South America. This candidacy is from the entire continent. For this reason, I would like and I will propose that our sister country Bolivia be part of this dream”.

Despite his comments on Twitter, in the event there was no mention of the possibility of including Bolivia or to another country as headquarters 2030.

But, in a press conference, the Minister of Tourism and Sports Matías Lammens was consulted about it: “I know that the proposal made by the president has to do with a specific request that Evo Morales made to him. The issue is very complex, that’s it set up the consortium. Today we are talking about the impossibility of FIFA organizing it with more than a certain number of countries, the maximum until now was three so we are going to present this opportunity to make it four”.

In 2018, Bolivia had already declared itself in favor of joining the candidacy, but its request had not progressed beyond a wish. “I say with great respect that we would also like to accompany two or three departments such as ‘Subsedes,'” President Evo Morales said at the time.

Months later, meetings were held with the then Bolivian sports minister, Tito Montaño, but the wish did not prosper.
