Microsoft has announced plans to cut a massive amount of jobs from various departments within the company. A total of 10,000 employees must pack up their cases by the end of the year.
Microsoft has not officially confirmed exactly where the jobs will disappear. As Eurogamer reports, both Xbox, Bethesda, Gears of War studio The Coalition and Halo developer 343 Industries are affected. The latter will reportedly be hit the hardest, he claims Bloomberg’s Jason Schreierand especially the team that worked on the Halo Infinite campaign.

In a a statement to employees explained Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella that the cuts come as a result of economic downturns and changes in where customers spend their money. At the same time, the company is investing in artificial intelligence, and in the future it will employ new people in other positions.
– We are in a time of considerable change, and as I meet with customers and partners, a few things have become clear. While customers spent more money digitally throughout the pandemic, they are now trying to optimize spending by doing more with less.
– We have also seen that organizations across several industries and regions are cautious, as some parts of the world are in an economic downturn and other places expect one to be on the way. At the same time, the next wave of computers will be created through advances in artificial intelligence, and we will transform the world’s most advanced models into a new computing platform.
Nadella also points out that 10,000 jobs make up less than five percent of the total number of employees at Microsoft.
The news comes exactly one year after Microsoft announced plans to buy Activision Blizzard for 68.7 billion dollars – 683 billion kroner at today’s exchange rate. The acquisition has not yet gone through, pending approval from various bodies and authorities in different parts of the world.
