Multiple accidents have claimed the lives of a hundred people in the state of Yucatán, where the streets, avenues, the Mérida peripheral and highways in the interior of the state have been dressed in tragedy in the first 129 days of 2023.

It should be remembered that since the beginning of the La Verdad Noticias count this year, motorcyclists have headed the list of those injured and killed by this cause, with pedestrians next on the list.

Correlative statistics to the numbers of deaths reveal that every 29 hours a person dies from an accident in Yucatan, 49 percent have been motorcyclists in the first five months and around 15 percent are pedestrians.

Facts

The last case was that of a man who tragically died in Mérida-Progreso after being run over repeatedly when trying to cross the street.

The events occurred on the night of Monday, May 8, a few meters from the entrance to Mérida, when a man between 55 and 60 years of age tried to cross the road, right in front of the Volkswagen.

Another case

Earlier in the afternoon, another pedestrian of approximately 45 years of age died in the Peripheral Ring of Mérida, near the highway that goes down from Campeche, when he was hit by a car that was advancing on the interior lanes.

The man, who remains unknown, tried to run across the Peripheral without realizing the proximity of the vehicle.

According to the representative of the National Center for the Prevention of Accidents (CENAPRA), Rene Flores Ayora pointed out that:

“Recklessness and speed continue to be one of the causes that represent the greatest risk for citizens,” he said.
