The earthquake has caused 35,500 dead in Turkey and more of 3,700 among the figures offered by the health authorities of the Government of Bashar al-Assad and those of the rebels in the provinces of Idlib and Aleppo (northwest), according to various balances published in recent hours.

Meanwhile, the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinkenasked the UN to demand that the Syrian government fulfill its commitment to open two border crossings for the entrance of humanitarian aid.

In a conversation with the UN Secretary General, Anthony Guterresthe American diplomat said that, if necessary, an authorization must be approved in the Security Council to demand the entry of trucks with humanitarian aid from Syria.

Bliken stressed in his conversation with the head of the UN “the need for the Assad regime to fulfill its commitment to open the Bab al Salam and Al Rai border crossings.”

The Security Council, Blinken stressed, could issue an authorization “that gives the UN and humanitarian actors greater flexibility” to give aid to Syria.

This Tuesday, a UN convoy entered the opposition areas of northwestern Syria through the border crossing of Bab al Salaama crossing on the Turkish divide that the organization can use again from Monday after several years without access.

Guterres also assured on Tuesday at a press conference that the two new border crossings are “open” and that the convoy of 11 trucks that entered this day is the “first of many.”

The regime of the Syrian dictator, Bashar al Assadauthorized the use of crosses of Bab al Salam and Al Raiboth on the Turkish border, to deliver UN aid for three months to opposition areas in the northwest of the country, surrounded by territory in the hands of rival actors and difficult to access.

The opposition areas of the provinces of Idlib and Aleppothe hardest hit by the earthquakes of February 6, did not receive their first humanitarian aid of the UN until four days after the catastrophe and the first specific shipment for those affected was delayed even longer, which led to a barrage of criticism against the organization.
