Career of Carsten Maschmeyer

Carsten Maschmeyer was born into modest circumstances on May 8, 1959, the son of a school secretary. He lived with her in his early childhood in a mother and child home in Hildesheim.

During his school days he won the title of district youth champion in middle and long-distance running. After graduating from high school, he joined the German Armed Forces and completed training as a reserve officer with the paramedics.

He first began studying medicine at the Hannover Medical School, for which he also worked at OVB Vermögensberatung to finance it. He devoted himself intensively to financial advice and was finally exmatriculated in 1982 because of his many absences.

Maschmeyer left OVB in 1987 after working his way up to become state director. At the independent company “Allgemeiner Wirtschaftsdienst” (“AWD”) he took over the management of the financial operations and began to internationalize it. Most recently, he took the company public.

When “Swiss Life” took over “AWD” in 2007, Maschmeyer sold the group a block of shares from its competitor “MLP AG”. In return, he received shares worth 300 million Swiss francs, making him the largest private shareholder in “Swiss Life”.

In 2010 he founded the consulting firm “MaschmeyerRürup AG” together with the entrepreneur Bert Rürup. All of Carsten Maschmeyer’s investments are brought together under the umbrella of the “Maschmeyer Group” capital company. Among other things, he invested in companies researching drugs to treat depression and skin cancer.

At the end of 2010, Maschmeyer’s fortune was estimated at more than 650 million euros. From 2016 he was part of the jury of the start-up show “ The lion’s den‘ on Vox.

Two years later, in 2018, he got his own start-up show called “Start Up!” on Sat.1. It was canceled due to low ratings.

Carsten Maschmeyer has two sons from his first marriage, but he divorced in early 2009 after 20 years.

In the same year he began a relationship with actress Veronica Ferres. The couple got engaged in late 2011 and eventually married on September 27, 2014 in the south of France. Since then, Carsten has been the stepfather of Veronica’s daughter Lilly Krug.
