It doesn’t really matter whether it’s an Nvidia Geforce or an AMD Radeon, compared to previous generations the graphics card prices are way too high. The recently released Geforce RTX 4070 Ti may be well positioned alongside the current flagship models such as the RTX 4080 and 4090, but in a generation comparison it is also far too expensive with its RRP of 899 euros. It is not without reason that one or the other PC gamer will bury their heads in the sand and prefer to reach for the console. On Black Friday, for example, the Xbox Series S was available at a ridiculous price of 222 euros. It’s not nearly as powerful as a high-end gaming PC, but it only costs a fraction of what it is. Now even a manufacturer is complaining, albeit through the flower: Graphics cards are actually too expensive.
Geforce RTX 4070 Ti: Not only this Nvidia Geforce is too expensive
Board partner MSI has specifically commented on this issue. In order to advertise an MSI Geforce RTX 4070 Ti Suprim X, he wrote on Twitter that the price is not as bad as the Geforce RTX 4080. But nobody wants to know anything about it anymore. They have the now deleted tweet Colleagues from Videocardz handed down for posterity. Now the Geforce RTX 4080 with prices starting at at least 1,299 euros is of course a bit more expensive than the RTX 4070 Ti. If you go back just a few years, however, you will come across Geforces from the 70 series for 400 to 500 euros. After all, the days when the RRP were far outperformed on the road are now history. Meanwhile, you can also buy a newly released graphics card like the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti below the official asking price.
Buy Geforce RTX 4070 Ti: At least no more price gouging
The EIA isn’t even set in stone. Actually, this only applies to the reference model of the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti, but not to manufacturer-specific designs from MSI, Palit, Asus, Gigabyte and all the other providers. In the case of the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti, there is not even a reference design, only reference specifications, so in principle any manufacturer could now go and stick their own RRPs on the cards, citing their own design. Experience has shown that these RRPs are usually higher than those of the reference. In this context, the current street prices can be viewed positively: Apparently, manufacturers can no longer raise prices at will without too many potential buyers falling by the wayside.

At the time the article was created, the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti started at around 883 euros in shape of a reference model from Manli. More popular models like the Palit Geforce RTX 4070 Ti Gamerock start at 890 euros (can be ordered from Mindfactory). Radeon RX 7900 XT instead of Nvidia Geforce: RRP has been undercut for a long time
You can currently get a Radeon RX 7900XT much cheaper. AMD had set an RRP of 1,049.99 euros there, only 100 euros less than the Radeon RX 7900 XTX. While the latter is no longer quite as expensive as it was shortly after the launch, but still costs at least 1,249 euros online, the market is now offering a few Radeon RX 7900XT models at good prices. Not only the RRP, but also the magic threshold of 1,000 euros is undercut. The reason for this is certainly the launch of the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti, which delivers weaker rasterizing performance, but also costs less. Both do little in terms of value for money.

When it comes to ray tracing, however, Nvidia can outperform its competitors – and this is probably where the price pressure comes in. The significantly higher storage pool and the more modern display standards of the Radeon are obviously not enough to maintain the price. the Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 XT from 975 euros and the Powercolor Radeon RX 7900 XT 979 euros are currently the cheapest Radeons in their class in terms of reference cards, the first manufacturer design starts in the form of the XFX Speedster MERC 310 Radeon RX 7900 XT at 999 euros. It is quite well cooled and well overclocked Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 7900 XT Vapor-X for 1,099 euros.
Buy old graphics card: Surprisingly stable prices in the new year
One would think that the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti, Geforce RTX 4080, Geforce RTX 4090 and the Radeon RX 7900 XT(X) would put some price pressure on the previous generation. But at least in the last few weeks, little has happened here. Price heights of the corona and mining waves may be over, but there are few real bargains among the old generation. Even in the old upper and high-end class, which are actually in the firing line due to the newcomers in the graphics card business. One of the few exceptions is the Radeon RX 6950 XT, which is again a little cheaper: am cheapest than XFX Speedster MERC 319 Radeon RX 6950 XT for 799 euros. It trumps the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti with 16 instead of 12 GB of memory and is on par when it comes to rasterizing, but only sees the rear lights in ray tracing. This probably results in the price pressure on AMD’s former flagship graphics card.
Real graphics card bargains are currently not in sight, but there is at least hope for improvement with the launch of new mid-range graphics cards. However, the RTX 4060 Ti, RTX 4070 and Radeon counterparts could still be a while away. Of course, we will keep you up to date on this as usual.
