In this beginner’s guide, we provide you with ten tips that will make it easier for you to start the game in Hogwarts Legacy.
Which house should I choose?
At the beginning of Hogwarts Legacy (buy now / €53.99 ) you decide for one of the four houses Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. Mainly, the different “clans” provide a different common room elsewhere in Hogwarts. At the beginning of the game you interact with the sorting hat, which then suggests one of the houses to you. You can then decide which house you want to take. If you want to emulate Harry Potter, you choose Gryffindor. We have already put together more information about the four houses in Hogwarts Legacy.
Play the first main missions for new features and spells
Hogwarts Legacy’s main missions are highlighted in yellow on the map. You attend classes or meet important people in the story. Study with the professors at Hogwarts to learn new spells, grow ingredients for potions in the nursery, or brew potions using ingredients you’ve grown or gathered. There is a lot to discover in Hogwarts Castle or in Hogsmeade and other locations. To get started, don’t be afraid to focus on the main missions. This unlocks more spells and features of the game. The talents are initially blocked until you reach a certain level of game progress. You will also receive the broom, the Room of Requirement for your own design or the animal creatures later.
Keep your eyes open to your surroundings
As soon as you are allowed to move freely in Hogwarts, you reveal minor secrets through Revelio. For example, you collect book pages for your magic manual. You also unlock rewards for collecting the collectibles. You will also find chests that provide you with coal or new equipment such as uniforms, hats or glasses and more. You may not open some chests at first, but you will receive instructions on how to get to the contents. For example, chests with eyes are distributed in the game world of Hogwarts Legacy. Here you use the spell disillusionment at a safe distance. Now you sneak up on these chests and open them. By the way, the hint for this spell to open the chest is a small symbol on the chest itself.

Trigger (R2 on PS5) casts her basic attacks. With Y you create Protego as a protective shield. Holding Y will cast Stupor for a counter with a chance to stun enemies. How can I get new healing potions?
During your adventure you will soon receive herbalism and potions lessons. You learn how to grow ingredients and brew potions. If you run out of Mega Power potions in the first few hours of play, simply collect Horklump Juice and Dittany Leaves to craft them. At the beginning you simply visit Professor Sharp’s classroom. There you brew healing potions at the table that you need in the fight. If you have already completed herbalism, you can also use the appropriate seeds to plant plants there. Later you will unlock the Room of Requirement. There you place your own tables for growing plants or potions. Pay attention to a good supply of potions in difficult missions with exhausting fights.
Help, my gear is filling up fast!
If you diligently open chests and complete main quests, you will find that your inventory fills up quite quickly. Either you destroy clothes and accessories that are no longer needed or you sell them. Later in the game you’ll meet Natty just south outside of Hogwarts. After exchanging information with her, you will find a quest near the body of water. There you help Nora Treadwell out of a predicament. After you have defeated the opponents, she will explain the trials of Merlin to you. You complete this and may thus increase your inventory. For example, after the first test directly with Nora, you will find a second test in the forbidden forest. For this you should always have a few leaves of mallow in your pocket. On the Hogwarts Legacy game world map, the trials of Merlin are represented by a leaf.
Where can I find my collection rewards?
As soon as you complete contracts, side missions or relationship quests in Hogwarts Legacy, you will receive certain rewards in your collections. Whether glasses, hats or scarves, you will not find these things in your inventory.

Instead, you move the cursor over the appropriate clothing or accessory in the equipment menu and then press the X button. This way you only change the appearance, but keep the stats of the original garment. So the rewards for the collection are skins for your gear. This is always practical if you don’t like a new piece of clothing at all.
When can I use talents?
After some progress in the main story, you will get the opportunity to invest points to level up. These improve your spells or potions and more. Attention, you will not get the invested points back at the moment. In the beginning, for example, you put on a new set of spells. So you can now save 4 magic spells for the fight on the face buttons and switch to a new set – for example for exploration or summons – using the Digikreuz. Use fast travel, save distances
At the Flea Flame stations you unlock fast travel points. These are colored green and can be reached at any time from anywhere in the game world. For example, if you are currently in Hogsmeade, simply open the game world map and select a desired green dot in a different location. This is especially important at the beginning of Hogwarts Legacy, since you don’t have a broomstick or hippogriff to fly yet. Fast travel points that have not yet been activated are marked in gray on the in-game map. As soon as you pass these points in the game, they will be activated automatically.
Where can I get a broom?
You first complete a few main missions in Hogwarts Legacy before you are asked to do flight training. You should complete this quickly and then visit Albie Weekes in Hogsmeade. He will sell you your own broom, which you can activate and use at any time outside of no-fly zones. So if you haven’t received an invitation to flight training yet, simply continue with the main quests marked in yellow. Attention: You should bring a well-filled wallet with you, because your first own broom costs 600 gallons at the beginning.
