Even though there were not quite as many registrations for the competition as in previous years, Maria Hellström, chairman of the Västernorrland Kennel Club, sees a growing interest in dogs.
– It is noticeable that many people chose to get a dog during the pandemic years. The registration numbers in the Swedish Kennel Club have increased significantly and so has our membership in Västernorrland, says Maria Hellström.
Award winning dog
Neji from Sollefteå won the “Excellent” award, which means that he very well corresponds to the breed’s standard, holds excellent class and has an excellent overall appearance. The owner Elvira Jansson from Sollefteå was very pleased after the award.
– Neji is the only male in the class, so he got first prize too, laughs Elvira, who has been doing dog shows since last summer.
Attempt to cheat
In the Swedish Kennel Club, no cheating is allowed at the shows.
– It occurs, but it is usually discovered quite quickly, says Maria Hellström.
What kind of cheating have you seen?
– You can influence the coat, nose color and dip the dog’s paws in soft drink so that the dog does not slip on the floor and runs better. There is cheating both big and small, says Maria Hellström.
