Jacinda Ardern, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, resigned after admitting in a press conference that he has “no more energy left in the tank” to continue in charge of the country. In his speech he called for elections to be held in October and that would end his five and a half years in office, which has gone through several domestic and global problems.

Ardern spoke at his party’s first meeting of the year and indicated that it was time to step aside, arguing that during his summer vacation he reflected on the possibility of continuing, but realized that he had no more energy. “I am leaving because with such a privileged role comes a great responsibility, a responsibility to know when you are the right person to lead and when you are not. I know what this job requires and I also know that I have no more power to carry it out,” said the president of the nation of New Zealand.
The official took office in 2017 at just 37 years old and became the youngest female head of state in the world. She led the country for six years, during the COVID pandemic, the two terrorist attacks on mosques in Christchurch and the eruption of the Whakaari Island volcano. In recent years, the Prime Minister of New Zealand he’s been through quite a few violent attacks on himself, at the hands of anti-vaccine groups and conspiracy theorists.
“These have been the most enriching 5 and a half years of my life, but they also came with their own problems. I hope that when I leave office, people will remember that one can be kind but strong, empathetic but decisive, optimistic but focused. and that you can be your own kind of leader, one who knows when it’s time to go”, concluded the policy from the southern country.
The world’s answer
Several local and international officials showed their support for the New Zealand president who is leaving her post after several years. One of them is Chris Luxon, the leader of the island nation’s National Party and main opponent of the government, who indicated that he thanked her for the service and that “she gave everything for an incredibly demanding job.”
For his part, the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, took the opportunity to wish Arden luck by indicating that “Jacinda has been a fierce advocate for her own people, an inspiration to thousands, and a great friend to me.”
