The CES in Las Vegas is the first big tech meeting in 2023. And like most of the players that matter, the Nvidia company is present at this event. Best known for its chips for computers or servers, Nvidia is also an automotive player. This one does not produce cars, but it is a supplier of chips for brands. And during CES 2023, Nvidia is making some exciting announcements for this sector.

GeForce NOW in cars

While Google has abandoned Stadia, Nvidia continues to rely on its GeForce Now cloud gaming service. This already allows you to play streaming video games on a multitude of media. And soon, GeForce Now will also be present in vehicles. Indeed, Nvidia has just announced that the cloud gaming service will arrive on vehicles from Hyundai Motor Group (Hyundai, Kia and Genesis), BYD and Polestar. And no special equipment will be required to provide this functionality.

A mobile connection will of course be necessary to connect the vehicle to the GeForce NOW servers. And according to Nvidia’s explanations, when this new experience is available on compatible vehicles, it will be possible to play on the front screens when the vehicle is parked or fully charged. On the other hand, GeForce NOW will be permanently available at the rear of the vehicle.

Thanks to cloud gaming, it will be possible to have an experience comparable to PC gaming on car screens. And currently, GeForce Now offers a catalog of more than 1,000 video games that can be played with a controller. Unfortunately, Nvidia does not give details on the timing of the deployment.

Nvidia is collaborating with the iPhone maker

Still in the automotive field, Nvidia also announced a new collaboration with Foxconn. It is best known for its iPhone manufacturing factories. But Foxconn is also interested in electric cars. And now, the company can count on its partnership with Nvidia to accelerate its projects.

As part of this collaboration between the two companies, Foxconn will produce a component called an “electronic control unit” or ECU for the NVIDIA DRIVE Orin car ecosystem. These chips can then be sold to car manufacturers. And on the electric cars it will manufacture, Foxconn will use these Nvidia-designed ECUs, as well as the American company’s Hyperion DRIVE sensors.

“This strategic cooperation with NVIDIA strengthens the intelligent driving solutions that Foxconn will be able to provide. Together, we enable industry to build energy-efficient automated vehicles”said Eric Yeh, senior director of Foxconn’s software development center. “This is a thoughtful partnership that leverages each side’s unique strengths in pursuing the development and opportunities of innovative electric vehicles.”

Rishi Dhall, vice president of automotive at NVIDIA, says the partnership will enable the industry to procure solutions for smart cars, with scalable production capacity.
