The owner of the 7-year-old bowling alley between 58 and 59 said he fired the employee who stopped “older” customers / EL DIA

The owner of the bar pointed out days ago by different neighbors as a result of “discriminatory” practices appeared at the National Institute against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism -Inadi- and said that not allowing access to the premises of people over 40 years of age was “a mistake” made by a worker (already fired), who would have based himself when adopting this measure “on policies of the same type that are taken in other cultural and recreational spaces in the City.”

This new chapter of the case considered as a “discriminatory act” by several people who were prevented from entering the bar, brewery and pool on Calle 7 between 58 and 59 on different occasions this January, took place at the offices of the Inadi delegation that works on the second floor of the Dardo Rocha Passage. In the organization, two of the neighbors who could not enter the premises because their passage was stopped at the door, had presented a formal complaint of what happened.

Adrián Morales -58- was one of the neighbors who exposed the case in the Inadi offices. He did so after he tried to enter the downtown bar with his son and they did not let him go, first because only “university students” were allowed to enter, and then, when the man clarified that they were both “university lawyers”, with the argument that the bowling alley admitted only people between “18 and 40 years old”. Upon learning about the presentation of the owner of the brewery before the body, the complainant stated that “if the situation is reversed and the place can be accessed, what the owner did seems good to me, but he should make it public, so that I can have the certainty that if I go back there with my son they will let us in.”

Barboza is the last name of the owner of the bar who appeared of his own free will at the Inadi, it was officially reported. The man, it was learned, recognized as “exclusive” the measure of not allowing people whose appearance indicated that they had passed the age of 40 to enter the premises. He told the agency that it was “an error” by a worker who was based “on policies of the same type that take over other cultural and recreational spaces in the City.”

According to what was added, the owner of the nightclub appeared “only” to make himself available to the procedure that he carries out in these cases and warned the employees who attended him in the organization that he was not going to “lend himself to the game of the media and networks ”.

Barboza justified, on the other hand, the mistake made in his bar, opining that “anyone has a mistake, that the Argentine National Team lost its first game and for this reason they did not stop encouraging it.” At the same time, he regretted that the cases publicized for age discrimination had as a consequence “escraches, threats of violence and even death through the networks.”

From the local INADI delegation it was remarked that “we do not condone violence or threats as a form of reparation for the discriminatory practice.”

Likewise, those who have experienced situations of discrimination similar to those that occurred in the bar in the center of La Plata were urged to approach the agency to present the complaint, “the only way – it was stressed – to address the prejudices that are based in our culture, and that give rise to these practices”.

The Inadi, it was recalled, does not have sanctioning power or the power to apply fines. Based on complaints or ex officio actions, he makes recommendations and issues opinions that are not binding as a judicial tool.
