INPE officials and workers detained during an operation in Penal de Piura.

In a simultaneous mega operation in Piura, Tumbes and Lambayeque, the authorities of the Drug Prosecutor’s Office and the Criminal Division (Divincri) of the Peruvian National Police (PNP) arrested 23 officials of the INPE that they would be involved in an alleged criminal organization that would be dedicated to the entry of cell phones, drugs and quota collection inside the former Río Seco prison, in Piura.

The operation began at 10 in the morning on Wednesday, with the participation of 60 agents of the Special Operations Group of the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE)40 prosecutors and 800 members of the PNP, which is part of a joint effort, as part of the actions to strengthen security in the country’s prisons, as well as the fight against corruption.

The investigation began as a result of the intervention carried out 15 days ago, inside the penitentiary establishment in Piura, by a penitentiary server to another, who saw his partner in a suspicious attitude, who, when searched, found 4 cell phones. Then officials of the INPE They proceeded to check the locker of the penitentiary agent intervened, finding a backpack that contained 27 cell phones and prohibited substances.

Thus initiating a preliminary investigation by the Piura Drug Prosecutor’s Officewhich has determined that some servers of the INPE they would be involved in the commercialization of prohibited objects and substances.

The judge ordered the preliminary arrest of 23 employees of the INPE and 10 inmates, who have been intervened as a result of the mega operation. Likewise, a review of all the pavilions of the penal complex was carried out, having found prohibited objects and substances.

It is necessary to inform that the detainees are subject to preliminary detention for 15 days and at the end of which the criminal responsibility that may arise will be individualized and the judge of the case will order the continuity or not of the detention order.

According to a publication by Diario Correo, the detainees inside the former Río Seco prison were arrested Second Simón Montalván Maza (director of the establishment), Jhoslyn Fernando Temoche Arreategui (prison deputy director), Edgar Abel Pariatón Garcés (prison security chief), Humberto Monteza Vásquez (prison warden) and 7 other security personnel and prison supervisors. Among them are the Chiclayanos, William Francisco Clavo Villegas (supervisor) and Sara Manuela Vásquez Carrasco (security).

While in Chiclayo they were arrested on INPE Northern Regional Director, Faustino Pingo Zapataand the deputy director of Prison Security, Jenner Lazo Moreno, as alleged members of this criminal group.

“If this happens, we are going to persecute them with the PNP, and the respective Prosecutor’s Office. INPE will intensify these measures to avoid further violating security in the country’s prisons,” the official remarked.
