After suffering a tough defeat against Newcastle 6-1, at St. James Park, on the last date of the Premier League, the Tottenham Hotspur footballers offered to return the money to the fans who attended this match.

“As a squad, we understand your frustration, your anger. It wasn’t good enough. We know that words are not enough in situations like these, but believe us, a defeat like this hurts,” began the club’s post on its official Instagram account.

“We appreciate your support, home and away, and with this in mind, we would like to refund the fans the cost of their tickets for the game at St James’ Park. We know this does not change what happened on Sunday and we will give our all to set things straight against Manchester United on Thursday night when, again, your support will mean the world to us. Together, and only together, we can make things move forward.”

The win against Newcastle had an impact on the squad, since the board led by Daniel Levy decided to fire Cristian Stellini, the interim coach who had taken over after the departure of the Italian Antonio Conte, who had left the institution after a handful of bad results.

The Tottenham squad, made up of Argentine defender Cristian “Cuti” Romero, was left in charge of Ryan Mason, who was already on an interim basis between April and May 2021 when the Portuguese José Mourinho was fired.

As for their present, the London institution has won only two of their last nine games and sits fifth in the Premier League standings with 53 points. However, the club is stalked by Aston Villa (51), Liverpool (50) and Brighton (49) with six dates remaining in the tournament.
