Triple-digit temperatures will continue to impact Southern California

The extreme heat advisory has been extended through Saturday for much of southern California, where temperatures could reach as high as 107 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

“Excessive heat will continue this week in the desert, mountains and valleys with highs of 97 to 107 degrees in the hottest areas with 85 to 95 degrees in the coastal plains,” according to the NWS.

Humidity drops throughout the area “creating elevated fire weather conditions in areas far from the coast,” the NWS reported.

In addition, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health issued an extreme heat advisory for:

  • The mountains of Santa Susana, Santa Monica and San Gabriel.
  • Calabasas/Agoura Hills.
  • The Santa Clarita Valley, San Fernando and San Gabriel.
  • The northern corridor of Highway 5 and State Highway 14 in the Atnílpe Valley.

“Be careful and know what to do for heat-related illnesses like heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Call 911 right away if you notice these symptoms: high body temperature (103°F or higher), vomiting, dizziness, confusion, and hot, red, dry, or clammy skin. Heat stroke is a medical emergency,” reported the Department of Health.

The NWS recommends checking the vehicle so as not to leave children, the elderly or pets inside it, stay hydrated and be aware of heat-related illnesses.
