A Miami woman has gone from being a victim of domestic violence by her ex-husband to being accused of extort to his mother in order to obtain the money to drop the charges he had filed.

The events, according to the police, date back to May 19 of this year, when Isabel Garran23 years old and of Venezuelan origin, filed charges of domestic violence against her husband, Guglielmo Antonio Marconerevealed in information from the chain NBC6

Mike Vega, a Miami police spokesman, said it all started with an argument that led to the arrest of Garran’s husband, accused of domestic violence, for banging her head against a wall and threatening to kill one of her friends.

Marcone appeared in court June 1 facing charges of false imprisonment with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

But investigators indicated that the course of events changed when Garran demanded $50,000 from his mother-in-law to drop the charges against Marcone.

“She had already filed the domestic violence report, for which detectives did their work and made an arrest,” said Miami police spokesperson Kiara Delva.

However, a meeting at the Islander Market Place market on Brickell Key became the cornerstone of investigators’ case, as there Garran allegedly demanded payment from his mother-in-law.

“For her to turn (the case) around and try to victimize another person and extort money from them is completely unacceptable. And that is why she now faces a serious crime,” added the police agent.

In the ongoing investigation, police said evidence, including text messages, indicated Garran’s alleged extortion attempt following the domestic violence incident.

Last Friday, in court, Garran’s lawyer said that she was the victim of a case of violence at the hands of her husband and that extortion complaint It was made by the mother of the alleged aggressor.

For these facts, Garran is currently detained in the county jail. Miami-Dade and bail was set at $75,000.

Miami police urged caution against giving in to extortion demands and encouraged potential victims to keep written or electronic records of these attempts.
