Study: Adolescents who do not sleep well could have mental or physical health problems

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A study from Brigham Young University (BYU) indicates that teens who get too little sleep may have problems with their mental and physical health.

According to the study, entertainment and leisure activities with electronic devices can affect young people’s sleep duration, especially if they are carried out at night.

Sleep is important for physical, emotional, and cognitive development, especially in adolescence.

According to the National Sleep Foundation, teens should get eight to 10 hours of sleep. However, because of hormones, their body does not tell them to go to bed early. That is why parental guidance is essential.

Experts explain that adolescent sleep problems could carry over into adulthood and cause disease.
