The Mixe sit-in against the works of the Tehuantepec Isthmus railway

Since the beginning of last March, Mixe ejidatarios began a blockade in the railways of the section Mogote Viejo-Vixidú (in Oaxaca), a section that is part of the priority works of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.

In this section, the railway rehabilitation project is being contemplated and the indigenous communities denounce that the company in charge is causing many damages that they are not willing to tolerate.

They affirm that they want to relocate them and that this is threatening the parcels and lands of common use of the community. In addition to the fact that they do not know how the entire project is going to be carried out, what is going to happen to the water and that it is about forced displacement.

On several occasions since the blockade began, they had already denounced acts of intimidation by the Navy and state security forces to get them to put an end to the mobilizations.

The thing is that this April 28, at 10:38 in the morninga group of elements of the National Guard, the state police and the Secretary of the Navy arrived at the camp called Tierra y Libertad and evicted them with violence.

They affirm that a woman identified as Adela Severo was beaten and 6 compañeros and compañeras were detained without knowing anything about her whereabouts: Maria Magdalena Martinez Isabel, Fernando Hernandez Gomez, Adela Severo Teodoro, Esperanza Martinez Isabel, Elizabeth Martinez Isabel and Eliodoro Martinez Isabel.

Through a statement they denounce that the sit-in was completely destroyed and that even their belongings were stolen.

Shortly after what happened, the UCIZONI announced that they had already established a roadblock at the height of the Malatengo bridge and also reinstalled the Tierra y Libertad camp.

For their part, the members of the Caravana El Sur Resiste began with a blockade on the transisthmian highway near Oteapan, in Veracruz, to denounce the aggression suffered.

In addition to asking for justice for this violent eviction, they demand that the governor of Oaxaca and President López Obrador that they release the detainees, that they respect the indigenous communities and original peoples, in addition to meeting their demands.
