The murder of the well-known and beloved referee and ex-policeman Hector Horacio Lopumo shocked the town of Altos de San Lorenzo, where he lived and everything happened; but also to the rest of the city and in the last hours his relatives revealed details of what the brutal attack would have been like. The 71-year-old victim was surprised by at least three armed men, who pointed their guns at him and ended up shooting him at point-blank range before fleeing the scene.

“My mom saw everything. She is medicated and now we are accompanying her”said the son of the victim, who returned to the city in the last hours after suspending his vacations in the seaside resort of Santa Teresita as a result of the tragic news.

The man, still shocked by what happened, revealed that they believe that when the attackers arrived, Lopumo would have turned in their direction and that it was then that one “completely high (on drugs)” got scared and shot him in the chest, point-blank. The victim was shot in the chest and died shortly after at her home, located at the intersection of 25 and 73.

“My old man never had problems with anyone, everyone loved him,” his son confided and also pointed out against the police authorities: “The police are inoperative. This makes me powerless, because I don’t know who they are, because if I don’t go and take justice into their own hands, because these inoperatives don’t know anything and nobody will know anything”he said before the media present at the scene.

The man also said that his sister was the first to attend the victim and assured that she even arrived at the scene before the ambulance of the Emergency Medical Care Service (SAME). When the paramedics arrived, they could not do anything for Lopumo, who had already passed away.

“This is truly crazy and we continue to live like this. Less and less for us and more for criminals”closed the man raising his claim for justice also before the local, provincial and national political authorities.

THE CRIME

According to the police reports to which he accessed 0221.com.ar, the victim was attacked without warning around 10 p.m. last Tuesday. He was surprised by at least three men on two motorcycles, who came to the door of his home and finally shot him at point-blank range. The attackers fled and nothing has been heard from them since.

Lopumo knew how to referee and be the protagonist of leagues such as Carlos Tejedor’s, La Pampa, Trenque Lauquen, the Platense Amateur League and the Ensenadense League. He always stood out for his temperament and imprint to deliver justice in each game. “In arbitration and in the Police, I always fought to defend my colleagues”recounted Héctor in an interview conducted by Gabriel “Colo” Lopez for the magazine The League of Clubs in 2020, in full quarantine due to the COVID pandemic. In neither of his professions did he go unnoticed and today his family and friends dismiss him on social networks with pain.
