Washington. The apparent leak of highly sensitive US documents, many of them related to the war in Ukraine, is a “very serious” risk to US national security, the Pentagon said.

The leak, which is being investigated by the Justice Department, appears to include secret intelligence assessments and reports affecting not only Ukraine and Russia, but also analysis by US allies.

The documents circulating on the web pose “a very serious risk to national security and have the potential to spread disinformation,” Chris Meagher, assistant secretary of defense for public affairs, told reporters.

“We are continuing to investigate how this happened, as well as the extent of the problem. Steps have been taken to take a closer look at how this type of information is distributed and to whom,” Meagher added.

Meagher stated that US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was not informed of the matter until the morning of April 6; day a New York Times article about the documents was published.

The issues revealed in the documents point to a Ukrainian counter-offensive during the Spring; the hardships of his troops in Bakhmut; the difficulties for Russia and Ukraine to control the Donbas region (eastern Ukraine); South Korea’s fears of delivering ammunition to the United States thinking it will end up in the hands of the Ukrainian military; the support of the Israeli secret services Mossad to the demonstrators against Netanyahu’s justice reform, among other issues.

Another issue that has become known in recent hours is that Egypt planned to covertly deliver missiles to Russia. The newspaper The Washington Post reported it last night.

Responsibility

South Korea’s presidential office said yesterday that it will demand that the United States take appropriate action in relation to reports of alleged spying on its top security officials.

Israel denies that its intelligence agents supported the demonstrations against Netanyahu’s reform and the Russians talk about interesting information that is known so far.

The documents are photographed and are reports prepared for senior Pentagon officials, including General Mark A. Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
